Day Five : Carnality

Is the quality or state of being merely temporal or worldly

Daily Focus: Carnality

February 5

Is the quality or state of being merely temporal or worldly; lack of spiritual vitality or maturity: It means living a life consumed by satisfying fleshly desires, feeding selfishness while serving the body, and starving the soul. Carnality is the state of depravity. The dictionary defines carnality as "the opposite of righteousness.” Righteousness is not mentioned much in the Church today. The Lord requires that we walk in holiness. If we are walking in holiness we are no longer carnal. We may exhibit carnal behavior at times but quickly return to holiness as the Holy Spirit inside us will remind us that we must be holy as He is holy. If we walk in holiness we will not be consumed by the deeds of the flesh.

Scriptural Evidence of These Sins Working in Our Lives

Romans 8:6-7

"So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God's laws, and it never will."

 1 Corinthians 3:3

"For you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn't that prove you are controlled by your sinful nature? Aren't you living like people of the world?"

Jeremiah 17:9

"The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly perverse and corrupt and several mortally sick! Who can know it?"

Philippians 2: 3-6

Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem the other better than himself. Look not every man to his own things, but every man also to the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God.

Scriptural Evidence of These Virtues Working in Our Lives

Titus 3:1-2

"Remind the believers to submit to the government and its officers They should be obedient, always ready to do what is good. They must not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling. Instead, they should be gentle and show true humility to everyone."

Proverbs 23:20-21

"Do not carouse with drunkards or feast with gluttons for they are on their way to poverty, and too much sleep clothes them in rags."

1 Corinthians 9:27

"But I buffet my body and subdue it, for fear that after proclaiming to others the Gospel and things pertaining to it, I myself should become unfit."

1 Corinthians 3:3

You are still worldly. For as long as there is jealousy and strife and discord among you, are you not unspiritual, and are you not walking like ordinary men.
