Holy Anointing Oil

“And you shall speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘This shall be a holy anointing oil to Me throughout your generations. It shall not be poured on man’s flesh; nor shall you make any other like it, according to its composition. It is holy, and it shall be holy to you. Exodus 30:31-32

God provided Moses with specific instructions regarding the building of the temple and all the elements to be placed therein. He also offered clear instructions on the consecration of the priesthood, along with the holy anointing oil to be used. The persons who were to be involved in building, designing and crafting the structures like the altar and the tabernacle were given name by name. There is something about the anointing that is instructive;  But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

 1 John 2:26

John gives us insight to understanding the anointing that is given to generations in Israel, that was not to be poured on men’s flesh. Why then do we anoint people with oil in churches all the time? Are we disregarding the word of God? The instructions given to Moses were a shadow of things to come through the Lord Jesus Christ. John says “ But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, — the key is that the anointing is received from Him and it abides in us. This is clearly different from an anointing (rubbing on of oil) that comes from clergy and is rubbed on you. So then we see that the holy anointing oil comes from God, and it is an inward spiritual presence. That is why Moses was instructed not to put it on flesh. There is a vast difference between the operation of the flesh, and the operation of the anointing.

Everything that pertains to the life of God operates in and under the anointing. It is not an accident that only those who were endowed with the Spirit of God, were called to engage in the work with Moses. It wasn’t about friendship or relationship, it was about the presence of God in their lives. Aaron and his sons were included because they were consecrated by God for the work of the priesthood. We do well when we hear and obey the voice of God while doing the work of the ministry.

Hear the detail which God speaks to His servant Moses — Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship. “And I, indeed I, have appointed with him Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have put wisdom in the hearts of all the gifted artisans, that they may make all that I have commanded you: the tabernacle of meeting, the ark of the Testimony and the mercy seat that is on it, and all the furniture of the tabernacle— the table and its utensils, the pure gold lampstand with all its utensils, the altar of incense, the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the laver and its base— the garments of ministry, the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, to minister as priests, and the anointing oil and sweet incense for the holy place. According to all that I have commanded you they shall do.” Exodus 31:1-11

The last line in the verse is how the Lord makes us one in the Body of Christ. God tells Moses that “according to all that I have commanded you they shall do. People without the Spirit of God abiding in them do not align themselves with the commands of God, because they operate in their flesh, which is contrary to the Spirit, according to Galatians 5:17; For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. The Lord has called us by name into His Kingdom, and has given unto us holy anointing oil that cannot be put on flesh. We walk in agreement knowing that our God is not the author of confusion. He instructs us with clarity of vision and purpose, so that we do not stray from the path that He has set before us.

I declare over your life today, that you shall be anointed with fresh oil, and every yoke in your life shall be destroyed because of the anointing. This anointing shall flow to the generations that  follow you. It is so, and so it is, in Jesus’ name!
