The Secret Things

There are things that we will never understand on this side of heaven. That is why faith is so...

“The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. Deuteronomy 29:29

There are things that we will never understand on this side of heaven. That is why faith is so essential to the life of every believer. Although God reveals truth to His children to instruct and guide us through life’s ups and downs. The secret things belong to the LORD our God. Therefore, we are required to trust God with the affairs of our lives.

Scripture is clear that we know in part — For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. [1 Corinthians 13:9-10] The good news is that a day is coming when that which is in part will be done away with. We will know as we are known; in that day, we will see the LORD as He is. Until then, we walk by faith and not by sight.

God reveals to us everything that we need for ourselves and the generations to come. Our capacity to contain the knowledge of God is limited because His thoughts are high above our thoughts. David put it this way in Psalm 139:4-6; For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether. You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it. Though the LORD’s thoughts are far above our thoughts, He has given us a part of Himself according to 2 Peter 1:3 —  as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.

What a blessing to know that the things that are revealed to you and me, are for us and our children forever. This means the things that God reveals to us are eternal. So while there are things that we will not know until we cross over into eternity, there are things revealed to us in time that pertain to eternal life. The question is, when does eternal life begin? And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. [John 17:3] The moment we come to know Him, we enter into eternity in the sense that the everlasting God who gave us breath, receives us unto Himself. He is the giver and sustainer of life and thus we live, breath and have are being in Him.

The purpose of revelation is for us to obey the word of God. The things that are revealed to us are designed to give us understanding of the will of God, so that we may walk in the word of God. So don’t fret about the secret things that belong to God. Be sure and very sure to walk according to the things that are revealed through His written and spoken word for the Body of Christ. Because we know that —“The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
