And in that day it shall be That living waters shall flow from Jerusalem,
Half of them toward the eastern sea And half of them toward the western sea;
In both summer and winter it shall occur. And the LORD shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be— “The LORD is one,” And His name one.
Zechariah 14:8-9
The prophet Zechariah speaks prophetically about a future where living waters shall flow from Jerusalem. This water will flow both east and west simultaneously, while also flowing through changing seasons — including summer and winter which represents the breadth of seasons in desert places. These waters shall flow consistently without ceasing. This is a beautiful picture of the presence of the LORD in the midst of His people.
What happens when the waters flow? The glory of the LORD is revealed as the inhabitants of the earth recognizes Him as King over all the earth. No longer will there be a debate about who is LORD because we shall perceive in accordance with Philippians 2:10-11 — that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. His name shall be one, and the LORD shall be one, and all arguments will be put to rest once and for all.
The Spirit of God shall at last cover the earth which will cause the knowledge of Him to increase — For the earth will be filled With the knowledge of the glory of the LORD,
As the waters cover the sea. Habakkuk 2:14
We should all look forward to “that day” when the reign of the King of Kings is made manifest in the earth. All those who love His appearing can relate to the future in which the prophet proclaims this hope of living waters flowing [the Spirit of God] — it causes us to live out Colossians 3:2-3 with great anticipation; Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. We live and die to ourselves in order to appear with Him in glory.
The Apostle John who had a very clear prophetic view of the new heaven and new earth on the isle of Patmos, put it this way in 1 John 3:2-3 — Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
Do you share this hope? And in that day it shall be That living waters shall flow from Jerusalem, Half of them toward the eastern sea And half of them toward the western sea; In both summer and winter it shall occur. And the LORD shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be— “The LORD is one,” And His name one.
Living waters shall flow, so as children of God, let’s purify ourselves in the water that washes us clean — the word of God. Come now and get in the flow!
